Backup
The Backup feature of TNCS is used to transfer service from a
failed device to a standby device. A device will go to backup
status if:
- The Device is backup capable
- A severe enough alarm occurs
to trigger backup
- The Backup feature is
activated
- The standby device accepts
the transfer of service
Backup is a unique feature of
TNCS used to automatically restore service when a device fails.
TNCS performs a series of predefined tasks when a failing device
goes into alarm and transfers service to a standby device. This
device can be in the same chassis or in a chassis in a different
rack located in the same Hub or Headend, or in a remote Hub or
Headend.
TNCS implements "Backup
Scripts" to define the series of commands that are used to
move service to the backup device. Backup scripts can be
customized to meet special requirements by contacting
Scientific-Atlanta.
