“True-Def of Hi-Def” Consumer Education Campaign Wins Beacon Award

At the Association of Cable Communicators’ (ACC) annual FORUM conference and Beacon Awards Ceremony in Washington D.C. this week, Scientific Atlanta’s “True-Def of Hi-Def” consumer education campaign won a Beacon award in the “Integrated Communications’” category.

The Beacon Award, coveted as cable’s highest award for communications and public affairs excellence, is awarded following an extensive two-phase judging process in Washington, D.C., at the NCTA headquarters. Sara Stutzenstein, Scientific Atlanta’s director of public relations reported that “it was a great night, with several of our customer systems taking home top awards. TWC and Cox had the most MSO wins, with Cartoon Network, MTV and VH-1 leading the programmer wins. Scientific Atlanta was the only ‘technology provider’ finalist. Kudos and thanks to all who helped with the True-Def of Hi-Def campaign, and for preparation of the entry itself.”

In addition to the Beacon Awards ACC awarded the Golden Beacon, the association’s highest honor, to Cox Communications’ “Take Charge! Takes on Internet Safety.” ACC presented 83 Beacon Awards, representing work by MSOs, cable systems, programming networks, cable associations and technology providers in categories such as community relations, competitive response and public service announcements. ACC received 494 Beacon entries this year, an 8 percent increase from the 2006 awards and evidence of the strong and continuing commitment by the cable industry to communications and public affairs. Finalists and winners were selected after an extensive two-phase judging process in Washington, D.C., at the NCTA headquarters in January.

The Association of Cable Communicators (ACC) is the only national, professional organization specifically addressing the issues, needs and interests of the cable industry’s communications and public affairs professionals. Formally known as the Cable Television Public Affairs Association (CTPAA), its mission is to develop and promote cable communications excellence through professional development to help achieve industry and corporate goals. ACC works to enhance each member’s status and influence through skill building and professional development. For more information on ACC, go to www.cablecommunicators.com or www.ctpaa.org.
