Scientific Atlanta, a leading home digital video technology company, commissioned a survey of 501 high-definition television (HDTV) owners in the U.S. to gauge their understanding of HDTV.

Results show that American consumers are still confused about the true meaning of HDTV – including many HD television
owners.

There are more than 16 million HDTV sets in homes today. And it is projected
that almost half of all U.S. households, or 50 million American homes, will
have a high-definition set in the next five years.* We believe this represents
a tremendous opportunity for your cable system’s HD programming service
offerings, so we’ve created a powerful retail marketing kit to help you educate
and attract new HD customers. It’s part of our national ‘True-Def of Hi-Def’
promotion that’s available to cable operators.

As you know, true high-definition requires an HDTV set, an HD cable box,
an HD signal, and tuning in to the right HD channel. The True-Def of Hi-Def
campaign focuses on the combined roles played by these essential elements
in order to create a true high-definition television experience. To participate in
The True-Def of Hi-Def campaign, please register at www.SABrightIdeas.com
for an abundance of resources to help you promote your efforts to the press
and help your consumers "Get Clear on the Big Picture" for HDTV.

Get clear on the BIG picture.

*Forrester Research, 2005

A nationwide phone survey was conducted by StrategyOne via telephone from September 23-30, 2005, utilizing the field
services of Opinion Access and a targeted list of HDTV owners 18 years of age and older. A Computer Assisted Telephone
Interviewing (CATI) facility was used.

An online survey of Scientific Atlanta’s Explorer® eClub members was conducted from September 2-7, 2005 to identify
additional HDTV trends and collect additional consumer feedback.
