TNCS Windows

TNCS Main Window
The user interface is a Windows NT application. The graphical user interface (GUI) is a main window with integrated tree control.

The tree control on the left side of the main window is similar to that of Windows Explorer. The tree control displays the network device hierarchy in the same fashion that Explorer displays the hierarchy of the directory structure on your computer's hard drive. Devices can be opened and viewed from the tree control.

Windows Types
From the main window, up to 32 other windows can be opened simultaneously.
Two basic window types are used:

  • Log windows - to display sequences of date/time-stamped text event messages
  • Data windows - to display the status of a device or group

Log Windows
Log windows are used to display date/time-stamped text event messages. An example log message might be:

09Oct99 13:12:12 Alarm Critical Athens HE1.Rack1.Chas07.ModHBOE Video Presence

Log messages are tagged with flags that identify the message type. Operator-action and backup-action are two examples of message types.

A custom log allows logging of select message types for selected equipment or equipment groups.

Data Windows
Data windows are used to display the status of a device or group.

  • Views of groups are typically presented as graphical block diagrams
  • Views of equipment components (devices) are typically text displays
